Premier League Matchday 32 Recap: City Hammer Chelsea, Bournemouth Stun Arsenal, Spurs Sink Deeper

Manchester City blitzed Chelsea 3-0 at Stamford Bridge to cut Arsenal's lead to six points. Bournemouth shocked the league leaders 2-1 at the Emirates, West Ham smashed Wolves 4-0 to climb out of the relegation zone, and De Zerbi's Tottenham debut ended in another defeat at Sunderland. Full weekend recap.

Matchday 32 delivered drama at every level of the Premier League table. Arsenal's title march hit a serious bump, Manchester City announced themselves as genuine contenders with a devastating second-half display, and the relegation picture shifted dramatically. Here's the full breakdown.

Friday: West Ham 4-0 Wolves — Hammers Climb Out

The weekend began with a statement from Nuno Espírito Santo's West Ham. Against his former club, Nuno orchestrated a demolition that was as clinical as it was cathartic.

Konstantinos Mavropanos opened the scoring with a towering header from a corner, and the Greek centre-back would bookend the performance with a thunderous late volley for his second. In between, Valentín Castellanos scored twice in three minutes midway through the second half — a poacher's finish and a composed one-on-one — to turn a competitive match into a rout.

The 4-0 victory was West Ham's most emphatic Premier League win of the season and lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time since December. More importantly, it dropped Tottenham into the bottom three.

Betting verdict: Our pick was West Ham to Win — a comfortable winner. The Hammers' urgency and Wolves' fragility combined for one of the most one-sided relegation battles of the season.

Saturday: Arsenal 1-2 Bournemouth — Title Race Blown Wide Open

The result that sent shockwaves through the league. Arsenal's aura of invincibility at the Emirates was shattered by an outstanding Bournemouth performance that exploited the Gunners' injury-ravaged squad.

Junior Kroupi gave Bournemouth a shock early lead, and while Viktor Gyökeres clawed Arsenal back level from the penalty spot, Alex Scott restored the Cherries' advantage in the 74th minute with a composed finish that silenced the Emirates.

Arsenal had entered the weekend needing roughly 3-4 more wins from their remaining 7 matches to seal the title. This defeat — their first home league loss since October — opens the door wide for Manchester City, who now trail by just six points with a game in hand.

The injury crisis we flagged in our preview proved prophetic. With Saka, Timber, Hincapié and Merino all absent, Arsenal lacked the creative spark and defensive solidity that has defined their season. Bournemouth's organisation and counter-attacking quality deserved every one of their three points.

Betting verdict: Our pick was Arsenal to Win — a clear loss. Bournemouth's quality and Arsenal's injury list made this far closer than the market suggested. A humbling reminder that no home banker is truly safe.

Saturday: Liverpool 2-0 Fulham — Ngumoha Makes History

Liverpool desperately needed a response after the 2-0 Champions League humiliation by PSG, and they got one through the most unlikely of sources. Rio Ngumoha, at just 17 years and 225 days old, became Liverpool's youngest ever Premier League goalscorer at Anfield when he opened the scoring in the 36th minute with a confident finish that belied his age.

Mohamed Salah, controversially benched against PSG, was restored to the starting lineup and made his point emphatically. His 40th-minute strike doubled the lead and the Egyptian King's celebration — a pointed gesture toward the directors' box — spoke volumes about the internal politics at Anfield.

The victory ended Liverpool's run of three consecutive defeats and eased the pressure on Arne Slot, at least temporarily. At 49 points, Liverpool remain in 5th but are still very much in the European conversation.

Betting verdict: Our pick was Liverpool to Win — a comfortable winner. Anfield remains a fortress and Salah's response to being benched was exactly as we predicted.

Saturday: Brentford 2-2 Everton — Stoppage-Time Drama

A breathless encounter at the Gtech Community Stadium ended in a draw that felt like a loss for Brentford and a win for Everton.

Igor Thiago made history by becoming Brentford's record goalscorer in a single Premier League season, taking his tally to 21 with an early penalty and a fortunate 77th-minute finish. But the Bees couldn't hold on. Beto headed Everton level in the 27th minute, and deep into stoppage time, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall pounced on a rebound to snatch a dramatic 2-2 draw.

Brentford stayed 7th on 47 points after a fourth consecutive league draw, with Everton level on points in 8th. Both sides harbour genuine European ambitions for next season.

Saturday: Burnley 0-2 Brighton — Wieffer's Double Sinks Clarets

Brighton continued their steady mid-table cruise with a professional 2-0 victory at Turf Moor. Mats Wieffer was the hero with goals in the 43rd and 89th minutes — the Dutch midfielder's first Premier League brace. Burnley offered little going forward and remain in the lower reaches of the table.

Sunday: Chelsea 0-3 Manchester City — The Title Race Has Arrived

The headline fixture delivered everything it promised — just not the way Chelsea fans expected. A ruthless 17-minute second-half blitz from Manchester City blew the game apart and sent an unmistakable message to Arsenal: this title race is far from over.

The first half was cagey. Chelsea marginally shaded it — Marc Cucurella had the ball in the net but was flagged offside, and Pedro Neto forced a good low save from Gianluigi Donnarumma. City were strangely passive, content to absorb Chelsea's limited pressure.

Then came the storm. On 51 minutes, Nico O'Reilly — the 20-year-old Irish midfielder enjoying a breakout season — headed home a Rayan Cherki cross to open the scoring. Six minutes later, Cherki turned provider again as Marc Guéhi finished with an impressively cultured strike to make it 2-0. Jérémy Doku completed the rout on 68 minutes, racing through on goal and finishing coolly past Robert Sánchez.

Chelsea's depleted squad — missing Colwill (ACL), Enzo Fernández (suspended) and Reece James — simply couldn't cope with City's second-half intensity. Three consecutive Premier League defeats for Liam Rosenior's side will intensify questions about his future at Stamford Bridge.

For City, this was a dress rehearsal for the April 19 showdown against Arsenal at the Etihad. Six points behind with a game in hand, Guardiola's side have the momentum, the squad depth, and the big-game pedigree to make this a title race that goes down to the wire.

Betting verdict: Our pick was Manchester City to Win — emphatic winner. City's big-game quality under Guardiola proved too much for Chelsea's makeshift defence, exactly as we predicted.

Sunday: Sunderland 1-0 Tottenham — De Zerbi's Nightmare Start

Roberto De Zerbi's first match as Tottenham manager ended in familiar fashion — another defeat. Nordi Mukiele's 61st-minute shot from the edge of the box took a huge deflection off Micky van de Ven, leaving goalkeeper Antonín Kinsky completely helpless as the ball looped into the net.

The deflected goal was cruel on De Zerbi, who had organised Spurs more coherently than anything we saw under Tudor in the final weeks. But the squad is simply too thin. With Maddison (torn ACL, season over), Vicario, Bissouma, and Kulusevski all absent, De Zerbi is working with one of the weakest squads in the division.

Tottenham have now gone 105 days without a Premier League victory — the longest winless run in the club's modern history. At 30 points from 32 games, they sit 18th, two points from safety with six games remaining. It's been an utterly wretched season.

Betting verdict: Our pick was Sunderland to Win — correct. De Zerbi's appointment changed the tactical shape but couldn't overcome the devastating injury list and the Stadium of Light's hostility.

Sunday: Crystal Palace 2-1 Newcastle — Mateta's Late Heroics

Newcastle took the lead before half-time through William Osula, who scrambled on the floor inside the six-yard box to poke home a low cross after slick play on the right. But Crystal Palace rallied after the break, with Jean-Philippe Mateta drawing level after Tyrick Mitchell unselfishly squared across the box to leave the striker unmarked. Then, in the 94th minute, Mateta coolly converted a penalty to complete the comeback and send Selhurst Park into raptures.

Sunday: Nottingham Forest 1-1 Aston Villa — Scrappy Stalemate

A result that neither side truly wanted. Villa took the lead after 20 minutes when Morgan Rogers' powerful low cross was driven into the path of Forest centre-back Murillo, who could do little as the ball bounced off him and into the net — an unfortunate own goal. But Neco Williams equalised seven minutes before half-time with a smart low finish from the left side of the box. The second half produced chances but no breakthrough.

Monday: Manchester United vs Leeds United — The Roses Derby (Tonight)

The final act of Matchday 32 takes place under the Old Trafford lights tonight. Manchester United (3rd, 55 pts) host Leeds United (15th, 33 pts) in a fixture that drips with history and rivalry. Our pick: Manchester United to Win.

Matchday 32 Table Impact

The weekend's biggest movers:

  • Arsenal remain 1st but their lead is cut to six points with City holding a game in hand
  • Manchester City move to 64 points from 31 games — the title race is alive
  • West Ham climb out of the relegation zone on 33 points
  • Tottenham drop to 18th on 30 points — in the bottom three for the first time
  • Bournemouth rise to 45 points with a signature away victory
