Serie A Matchday 32 Recap: Inter Survive Seven-Goal Como Thriller, Malen Hat-Trick Lifts Roma, Juventus Stun Atalanta, Milan Humiliated by Udinese
Inter Milan came from behind to win a breathless 4-3 at Como and extend their lead to nine points. Donyell Malen's hat-trick powered Roma past bottom side Pisa, Juventus snatched a smash-and-grab 1-0 at Atalanta, Napoli were held at Parma, and AC Milan suffered a shocking 0-3 home defeat to Udinese. Full matchday recap.
Matchday 32 was arguably the most dramatic weekend of the Serie A season. A seven-goal thriller in Como, a hat-trick from a rejuvenated Dutchman in Rome, a tactical masterclass from Juventus in Bergamo, and a humiliation for AC Milan at San Siro. Here's the full breakdown.
Friday: Roma 3-0 Pisa — Malen's Magnificent Hat-Trick
After being demolished 5-2 by Inter the previous week, Roma needed a convincing response. Donyell Malen delivered it in emphatic fashion with a stunning hat-trick that showcased why Gian Piero Gasperini brought him to the Olimpico.
Malen struck after just three minutes, racing onto a through ball and finishing with composure past Pisa's goalkeeper. He doubled his tally before half-time with a clinical header from a Matias Soulé cross, and completed his hat-trick seven minutes into the second half when Soulé again played him in — this time a perfectly weighted through ball that Malen took in his stride before slotting home.
Pisa, rock bottom with 18 points and a 99% relegation probability, offered nothing. They are a side utterly overmatched at Serie A level after 34 years in the lower divisions — their return to the top flight has been a painful education.
For Roma, the 3-0 victory was their second win in eight games but provided much-needed confidence. At 57 points in 6th, they remain in the European conversation.
Betting verdict: Our pick was AS Roma to Win — comfortable winner. The quality gulf between Roma and bottom-placed Pisa was always going to tell, and Malen's clinical finishing exceeded expectations.
Saturday: Atalanta 0-1 Juventus — Boga's Smash-and-Grab
This was a tactical masterclass from Luciano Spalletti. Juventus arrived in Bergamo knowing they were underdogs — without the injured Vlahović and facing an Atalanta side unbeaten at home in 2026. What they delivered was a defensive performance of the highest order.
The first half was a non-event from a Juventus perspective — deliberately so. Spalletti set up in a deep 3-5-2 that ceded possession and territory to Atalanta, content to frustrate and wait. Atalanta had 13 corners and 22 shots across the 90 minutes; Juventus had just 7 shots and 2 corners. But only one team scored.
Jérémie Boga struck three minutes into the second half — a lightning counter-attack that caught Atalanta pushing forward. A quick transition through midfield found Boga in space on the left, and the Ivorian winger cut inside before drilling a low shot past Atalanta's goalkeeper. It was Bergamo's first home defeat of the calendar year.
Juventus defended the lead with extraordinary discipline. Michele Di Gregorio made three important saves, and the centre-back pairing of Gatti and Bremer was simply immovable. Atalanta threw everything forward — substitutions, formation changes, long balls — but couldn't find a way through.
At 60 points, Juventus climb to 5th and remain firmly in the Champions League qualification conversation. Atalanta, at 53 points in 7th, see their European hopes dimming.
Betting verdict: Our pick was Atalanta to Win — a loss. We backed Atalanta's home form and Juventus's inconsistency, but Spalletti's tactical setup was a masterpiece of pragmatic football. Sometimes the numbers lie — Atalanta dominated every statistical category except the one that matters: goals.
Saturday: AC Milan 0-3 Udinese — The San Siro Humiliation
If the Atalanta-Juventus match was a tactical masterclass, the Milan-Udinese game was a tactical disaster. AC Milan's experimental lineup and formation change backfired spectacularly as Udinese ran riot at San Siro.
The first goal was particularly damaging. Nicolò Zaniolo — the former Roma man — led a rapid counter-attack down the right. Arthur Atta's cross took a cruel deflection off Davide Bartesaghi to wrong-foot Mike Maignan and put Udinese ahead. The own goal deflated an already subdued San Siro.
Jürgen Ekkelenkamp doubled the lead just ten minutes later with a clinical finish, and the match was effectively over before half-time. Arthur Atta then completed a remarkable individual performance with the third goal on 71 minutes — a feint to shoot into the far corner before slotting into the bottom left. At 20 years old, Atta announced himself to Serie A with a goal-and-assist masterclass.
The 0-3 scoreline was Milan's worst home defeat of the season and raised serious questions about their tactical direction. The Rossoneri, once title contenders, now sit mid-table with their Champions League hopes fading rapidly.
Saturday: Cagliari 1-0 Cremonese — Esposito's Touch of Class
A tight affair at the Sardegna Arena was settled by Sebastiano Esposito's 63rd-minute strike — a moment of individual quality in an otherwise scrappy encounter. Cagliari's home form continues to be their survival lifeline.
Saturday: Torino 2-1 Verona — Simeone and Casadei Strike
Giovanni Simeone (6th minute) and Cesare Casadei (50th minute) gave Torino a comfortable 2-0 lead before Kieron Bowie pulled one back for Verona. The Granata held on for a valuable win at the Olimpico Grande Torino.
Sunday: Como 3-4 Inter Milan — The Game of the Season
This was the match that will define Serie A's Matchday 32 — and possibly the entire Scudetto race. Seven goals, two comebacks, a penalty, and a second-half transformation from the champions that was as breathtaking as it was necessary.
Como — the season's revelation under Cristian Chivu, sitting in 4th place with 58 points — produced a sublime first-half display at the Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia. Álex Valle gave the hosts the lead on 36 minutes with a well-placed finish, and Nico Paz — the 20-year-old Argentine sensation who has been one of the signings of the season — doubled it on the stroke of half-time with a curling effort that epitomised his extraordinary talent.
Marcus Thuram pulled one back for Inter in first-half added time — a vital lifeline heading into the interval. Como led 2-1 at the break and the home crowd sensed a landmark victory.
The second half, however, belonged entirely to Inter. Thuram levelled at 2-2 on 49 minutes with a right-footed drive, and suddenly the momentum shifted. Denzel Dumfries completed the turnaround on 58 minutes, arriving at the back post to head home from a Hakan Çalhanoğlu assist. The Dutch wing-back then added his second on 72 minutes — a powerful run and finish that showed his growing influence on this Inter side.
At 4-2, the game looked settled. But Como aren't in 4th place by accident. Lucas Da Cunha converted an 89th-minute penalty to make it 3-4 and set up a frantic final few minutes. Inter held on, but only just — Como had 60% possession and 24 shots (8 on target) in a performance that showed why they've been the neutral's favourite this season.
Inter's nine-point lead at the top with six games remaining makes the Scudetto a near-certainty. But Como's display confirmed their status as one of the most exciting stories in European football this season.
Betting verdict: Our pick was Inter Milan to Win — correct, but what a ride. Inter's big-game experience and Thuram's brace were the difference, but this was far from the comfortable away win the final scoreline might suggest. Our preview flagged Inter's need to "restore their authority" — and they did, just about.
Sunday: Parma 1-1 Napoli — Conte's Charge Stalls
Napoli's five-match winning streak came to an end in Parma, and the manner of the result will frustrate Antonio Conte immensely.
Gabriel Strefezza stunned Napoli with a goal inside the first minute — the earliest goal Conte's side have conceded all season. The winger's shot from the edge of the box caught Napoli's defence cold, and suddenly the visitors were chasing the game from kick-off.
Napoli dominated possession thereafter — 74.5% to Parma's 25.5% — but were repeatedly frustrated by Parma's deep defensive block and Ennio Tardini's tight pitch. Scott McTominay finally equalised on 60 minutes with a trademark box-to-box run and powerful finish, but despite sustained pressure, Napoli couldn't find a winner.
At 66 points, Napoli remain second but the nine-point gap to Inter means the Scudetto race is effectively over. Conte's focus will now shift to securing second place and their Champions League spot.
Betting verdict: Our pick was Napoli to Win — a loss. Parma's first-minute goal and deep defensive block disrupted Napoli's rhythm. The early goal changed the complexion entirely — Parma could sit back and counter, which is exactly what they did effectively.
Sunday: Bologna 2-0 Lecce — Freuler and Orsolini Secure Points
A professional performance from Bologna at the Dall'Ara. Remo Freuler opened the scoring on 26 minutes and Riccardo Orsolini sealed the win in the 90th minute to ensure a comfortable victory over struggling Lecce.
Monday: Fiorentina vs Lazio (Tonight)
The final fixture of Matchday 32 takes place at the Stadio Artemio Franchi tonight. Fiorentina (15th, 32 pts) host Lazio (9th, 44 pts) in a match with very different stakes for each side. Our pick: Lazio to Win.
